The page has 2 modes:

  1. Select - this is the default mode. In this mode, if you tap on the thumbnail image, the photo or video will be selected
  2. Preview - in this mode, you can preview the photo or video before deciding to select it for transfer. Tap on the “Preview” button to switch from “Select” to “Preview” mode
Before selecting photos or videos to transfer, we must setup the FTP connection. To do this, tap on the Settings button (lower left):

Here’s a brief description of each input field:

  1. FTP Server Name or IP Address: this is the name or IP Address of the computer running the FTP Server (for example: MyMacbookPro or 192.168.1.10)
  2. User ID: the user id of the ftp account
  3. Password: the password of the ftp account
  4. Target Directory: this is the directory to store the photos or videos (for example: /photos or /albums/vacation). Make sure that the specified Target Directory already exists.
  5. FTP Passive Transfer Mode: leave this to OFF unless you are familiar with how FTP works
Tap on “Test Connection” to open a test FTP connection to ensure everything is setup correctly. If “Test Connection” is successful, tap on “Save Settings” to save your FTP Settings. Once your FTP settings are saved, you do not need to provide these information again unless you are connecting to a different FTP Server.

Let’s begin by selecting a few photos and videos:

Note that the “Transfer Selected” button is not enabled unless at least 1 photo or video is selected. Now if you are ready to begin the transfer, tap on “Transfer Selected” to transfer the selected photos and videos to the specified FTP Server. Or you can transfer all photos and videos by tapping on “Transfer All”. Once the transfer process starts, you will see the following progress page:

A thumbnail of the current asset being transferred is always shown. The top progress bar shows the transfer progress of the asset shown in the thumbnail. The bottom progress bar shows the total progress for all assets being transferred. You can abort the transfer anytime. Transferring of images are usually very fast. Videos usually take longer to transfer.

Tap the Close button to close the progress page. You should see the transferred photos and videos on your FTP Server. The photos and videos that have been successfully transferred will have a blue checkbox image. A red checkbox image represents a selected photo or video that has not been transferred.
